The first LA Group FIDE Rated open Chess tournament got off to a flying start , here at Jade Hall of the Jenney Club. The inaugration was attended by more than 100 invitees . The Chief guest of the function Thiru G.K.Sundaram , Chairman , Lakshmi Mills Co.Ltd., gave an inspiring speech which enthralled the audience.The sports loving octagenarian was Former President of Tamilnadu State Chess Association during whose tenure, GM Anand became the Asian Junior Champion in Coimbatore.

The Guest of Honor Rotarian Mr.Venkittapathy, Asst.Governor 2007-08 spoke on the occasion and stressed the importance of sponsorship and development of chess , shedding the light on its history etc.

Mrs. Nandini Murugan of the Event management firm Morals , did the master of ceremony and with her affluent language had a spell bound effect on the function.

With a participation of 155 players lead by K.Ratnakaran of Kerala , the event involves IM Laxman of Chennai, WIM Lakshmi Sahiti of Andhra Pradesh,Ram S.Krishnan of BSNL,National A player Syed Anwar of Shazuli of ICF and many other stars.
